Donor Trip to DSW Country Office and Projects
German private donors went on a trip to Uganda to explore how DSW implements sexual reproductive health education in the country. The group was welcomed by DSW’s Uganda country office team at the BONITA training centre in Kampala and visited several project sites and partner organisations in rural and urban areas. Young people from a Youth Club in Nakaseke District informed their guests about their peer education activities and reported on their achievements and challenges. The group from Germany was impressed by the work DSW is carrying out in Uganda. In addition to the field visits, the guests had the opportunity to talk to the German Ambassador in Uganda and the Minister of Health of the Buganda Kingdom.
World Contraception Day
Together with the All Stars Football Academy, a talent
development facility, DSW celebrated the 2008 World Contraception Day in Kampala.
Activities were a public dialogue with women parliamentarians and students, a
youth club drama competition, and demonstration of contraception methods. The
highlight of the event was a girl’s football match after which information and
consultation about family planning and contraception methods were offered.
DSW Uganda Presents Paper on Resource Mobilization for Reproductive Health
The paper on how to assess stake holders' undertakings and commitments has been presented at a high-level policy meeting organized by the East African Reproductive Health Network (EARHN) on August 28th in Kampala. Members of Parliament from the regional East African Community and Members of Parliament from national parliaments in the East African region participated at the meeting. The objectives were to secure commitment by EARHN member countries to promote reproductive health commodity security, to promote the provision of secure and permanent financial support for reproductive health among governments in the region, to strengthen systems for reliable and predictable supply of quality reproductive health services in the region and to support the increased demand for reproductive health services in the region. Ugandan participation was secured by DSW staff, the officer in charge of sexual and reproductive health commodity security of the Ugandan Ministry of Health, and Partners in Population and Development.
